I got to design for the kids show!!!

I got the lighting design for Aesop's Fables!!! It was simple show to design but a credit is a credit. There was storm and a few major shifts to incorporate. Luckily we had a strobe rented for "Once on this Island" so the storm was a real wow factor for the kids. I'll try and get some pictures up before to long...

Sorry for the late posts!

It's been about 2 weeks since i last posted. I am still getting used to the idea of journal keeping (as well as blogging on top of that).

The week just following my last post was the tech week for Once on this Island. Shawn Boyle the Lighting Designer got into town and we hit the ground running. I was up in the space for up to 14 hours at a time (barring breaks for lunch and dinner). As it goes, we were just doing hang/focus/patch/re-patch/troubleshoot stuff for the most part. The patch bay is a spaghetti factory. We are using 48 dimmers with dual outputs on each module. Our board is an express 250. Most of our instrumentation consists of Source4's and Source4 Pars with a peppering of Altman 6x9's. More to come this evening. I'm off to lunch.

SAT-MON....

Saturday the 23rd, David and I made another run to Syracuse to get more Equipment. Then, we went back to the theater to install it. and that was pretty much all of that day.

Sunday the 24th, I had two production meetings. One for Once on this Island and one for the childrens' show . Shawn got into town so he and I discussed the shows and he worked with the Production Manager to get me the childrens' show design. So I will be getting a script ASAP and begin reading and preping.

Today, Monday the 25th, it is a company day off due to Memorial Day. I still intend to go up to the theater for a couple hours with Shawn to go over the plot and the setup.

Production Meetings

Today I had a production meeting at 9:00am to talk about the new developments in the set design and to relay those changes to Shawn. I am his proxy until he gets in on Sunday.

David and I were at the theater today setting up sound equipment and dusting off the instrumentation. I set up the patch cabling and got it all pretty and ready to for the first show. I left early due to feeling under the weather and came home and relaxed a bit. Am still recovering from some strange allergy/cold thing, though I am getting better by the day.

Just To Catch Up!

I have been here in Cortland, NY for 5 days up to this point. Eric and I arrived on the 17th of May, 2009. I have in that time slept the first two nights at a local bed and breakfast inn, The Copper Iris. Which is owned and operated by three of the Cortland Repertory Theater Guild members, Pete, Louis, and Nancy. It is a wonderful little B&B that has been in operation since long before I was born by Nancy and her family.

The second day (Monday the 18th) I was in town I helped the Company Managers get housing ready for occupation. This involved cleaning profusely and taking in basic items such as trash cans, shower curtains, dishes, other sundries.

On the third day (Tuesday the 19th) I took all of the lighting and sound equipment out of storage and up to the theater, which is 25 minutes from the shop. This consisted of removing it all from the office of the Production Manager (Kerby Thompson) and placing it in the company van to be trucked up to the theater. The theater is located in Little York, NY on the second floor of an historic building known as the pavilion. So, needless to say it was a bit of a haul to get it all up the stairs, especially the amp rack.

I also helped to take the reheasal piano over to the Rehearsal Space which is located just up the street from the acting houses in the basement of a local church just outside of the SUNY Cortland campus. At noon that same day, Eric Thomas and I moved into our Apartment in downtown Cortland. That evening we had our first Company Meeting where everyone on the cast and crew socialize and Kerby Buys us all pizza and wings.

The following Day (Wed. the 20th) There was a Production meeting at 0900 for Once on this Island where I stood in for Shawn Boyle (Lighting Designer). After the meeting David Huber (Sound Designer) and I went into Syracuse to borrow some Equoipment from Syracuse Stage. We then went back to the Theatre to set up the space and prepare it for the summer. At 1400 the Interns came up to the space to have an orientation meeting concerning thier duties in the realm of Technical Theater. David and I stayed after for another Hour or so before heading back into Cortland to borrow some more equipment from SUNY Cortland.

That evening there was a Company/Guild Meeting up at the theater at 1800. At this meeting we all introduced ourselves to the guild and vice versa. There was food and merrimaking a plenty.

Today (Thur. the 21st) I have done naught but this and caught up on email from the past 5 days. this evening at 1400 I will be going up to the theatre with the first rotation of interns to give the a more intimate aquaintance to the space.
